COATcreate Product Validation
This document outlines the process of product validation for vehicles in COATcreate for Nissan.
Process timeline
Each vehicle will be treated as separate project with it's own timeline. Once a vehicle is approved for work and the data is available the product validation will start.

Tools
-
COATcreate
The vehicle will be available in COATcreate for all parties to validate. This will allow users to view materials under different conditions.
-
Frame.io
Frame.io will be used comment on the vehicle. There will be pre-rendered images from Omniverse that will be available for the user to markup directly.
-
Dropbox ( temporary )
If something is not visible in images on frame.io, users will need to upload an image to Dropbox and reference the name of the image in the comment on frame.io. This is a temporary workflow until frame.io supports embedded images ( in next release )
Review Process
At the start of the review process Katana will deliver:
-
The Name and version of the vehicle in COAT
-
A frame.io link to comment on
-
A Dropbox link for reference uploads.
We have found that it is best to review the images, and the live asset in COATcreate to properly evaluate the vehicle. Instead of reviewing an image after it has been created the vehicle needs to be approved before the images are rendered.
The images in frame.io are there to make commenting easier. They are not there to express any creative direction. This is why the vehicle also needs to be viewed in COATcreate as lighting, exposure and camera angle can all change and the way materials react can be evaluate
Frame.io

After login you will see the list of vehicles on the right-hand side.
Select the vehicle you wish to comment on.
In the "main" window, there will be a folder called "Visualization" for that car. Click on that.

Once inside that folder you will see various exterior and interior 360s. There will be an interior and exterior for each EIM. Each EIM will also be in different colors to show more range. Not every color will be shown in render, but they are available in COATcreate to review
The naming convention for the files is "EIM_EXT-Color_INT-Color_ImageType"
Click on the asset you would like to review.

In the upper toolbar there is the name of the asset followed by the version. This is a dropdown that you can use to select and compare versions.
Next to that is the compare versions button that will change to show 2 versions side by side. To exit that just press the "Exit Comparison Mode" button at the top.
Back to the standard mode.
Because we are working with limited frames, it is best to use the time line to scroll between the frames to review
When you would like to comment, you can click on the paint brush icon in the comment window below the video

This will bring up shapes, arrow and colors to mark on the video directly.

In the above image, I have circled the item that I am commenting on, describing what it should be and in contrast to what it is now. The more descriptive the comment the better to avoid any issues or questions later.
" The shark fin antenna should be body color and not black plastic. "
Currently frame.io does not support image uploads to comments, but it is in the process of enabling that feature.
If you have reference, or an image from coat that you would like to reference, for the time being it will have to be uploaded to dropbox and reference the file name in the comment. Like in the image below

" The door handles should be black on this trim. Reference image 0001.png in dropbox "
Once the window for comments has closed, Katana will gather the comments and start the changes. We will obviously reach out if there are any questions or if anything needs clarification.
Once the changes are complete a new version will be uploaded to both COATcreate and frame.io. This second round of comments should be a confirmation that all the changes have been made correctly and any new comments, hopefully minor will just be verified on delivery.
